Australia is well known for its café culture, with cafés inspired by Aussie ones springing up all over the world in recent years. Despite living in New Zealand all my life until last year, I’ve only visited Australia once! A little while ago I spent some time in the Gold Coast just relaxing, catching up with relatives, and of course – enjoying breakfast in their plethora of great cafés. If you’re staying in the Gold Coast, there’s bound to be somewhere for great Aussie coffee and a perfect avo on toast within walking distance from your accommodation. Here are a few that I can recommend!
Commune is one of the most popular coffee shops in the lively coastal suburb of Burleigh Heads. Enjoy their highly acclaimed coffee and plates featuring seasonal organic ingredients from inside the bustling, eclectic interior, or alfresco in the courtyard.
A must-do when in the Gold Coast, Paddock Bakery is tucked away in an unassuming residential area of Miami. Enjoy some fresh air with your flat white in the tree-shaded courtyard, and don’t forget to try one of their renowned doughnuts (plus a few extra to take away!).
Elk Espresso are famous for their panna cotta breakfasts, featuring a granola and panna cotta flavour combination that changes with the seasons. Much of their beautifully-plated menu is seasonal, and drinks range from caffeinated to boozy.
Fancy a fresh juice or iced coffee surrounded by fresh interiors and luscious houseplants? Head straight to Social Brew in Burleigh Heads. Once you’ve had your fill, it’s only a short distance to the beach or the lovely Burleigh Heads National Park for a scenic walk.
Touted as the Gold Coast’s number one health cafe, BSKT is much loved by locals, and the reviews prove it! With simple, industrial styling, the focus is on fresh and healthy organic produce – and there are loads of vegan and vegetarian options on offer.
